Digital Media Manager

Carrie Hodgin is an Emmy-nominated, regional Murrow Award winner, and recipient of two TEGNA Innovation awards. She has more than 17 years of broadcasting TV news experience working at four different television stations. She was a TV Newscast Producer for more than eight years before transitioning to the trending world of digital where she serves as the Digital Media Manager at Hearst-owned WXII 12 News in Winston-Salem, NC. She earned her degree in broadcast and corporate communications at Elon University. She’s a seven-time triathlete even competing in a triathlon at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. She was also a volunteer firefighter and is married to a fire captain. She’s an avid sports fan and also played ice hockey and attends all the Hurricanes games in Raleigh. She also loves travel, movies and anything North Carolina. She’s also a rare disease warrior and advocate. She kept her rare disease a secret for 19 years, “masking her pain underneath her jeans,” but broke her silence on Rare Disease Day to help save lives by openly sharing her rare disease journey on TV while working as a Senior Digital Producer at WFMY News 2 in Greensboro, NC. Her story traveled the world on digital and YouTube while making it her mission to help fight for all rare diseases. She also started a social media campaign among emergency first responders to participate in Rare Disease Day, to shine a light for those battling each day to find their own courage and to keep up the fight. She also works to bring a media spotlight to others battling rare diseases in hopes of raising awareness. She also works to connect those with rare diseases to online resources. She raised awareness about Rare Disease Day at both WFMY News 2, WXII 12 News creating a series of stories online, on social media, and on TV while connecting families of rare diseases to media coverage to raise awareness. She also lives with other non-rare diseases including PCOS, but if it’s one thing she’s learned from living with a rare disease is to find “Purpose in the Pain.”
